WHAT IS Microneedling?

At Le Visage Aesthetics clinic we offer the latest generation microneedling treatment. This advanced therapy uses a precision-engineered electronic medical device to stimulate the skin’s natural responses. Microneedling (also know as collagen induction therapy)  uses tiny pinpoint needles to penetrate the skin, creating micro channels. The body detects the puncture of the needles as small injuries in the skin which triggers a healing process, stimulating natural collagen production. This increased collagen level leads to an improvement of your skin’s appearance, making skin tighter, smoother and brighter.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

  • Reduced wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improvement in overall skin tone and texture
  • Skin tightening
  • Reduced pore size
  • Scar and wound healing
  • Treats pigmentation and sun damage
  • Reduces appearance of stretch marks

Do I need to prepare my skin before treatment?

Before any microneedling treatment it is best to have skin make up free and cleansed thoroughly as well as avoiding sun exposure 24 hours prior.

Where can be treated?

Whilst the majority of microneedling treatments are performed on the face, we can also perform microneedling around your body to treat sun damage, stretch marks and even scarring. The result is smoother, brighter and healthier skin.

How many treatments are required?

Generalised rejuvenation can be achieved in as little as three treatments. For optimum results, a course of treatments will take place every 6 weeks for a series of 3-6 treatments. This is dependant on the concern being treated.

How will my skin look after treatment?

Skin reactions depend on the individual, however skin will appear pink/red for around 24 hours. Other reactions after the treatment may include tightness, slight flaking. Skin will be back to normal within 7 days. We apply the Ultimate recovery mask after the procedure to calm and hydrate the skin, followed by an SPF.

WHAT IS SKIN PIGMENTATION?

Your body contains a pigment called melanin, which determines the colour of your skin, hair and eyes. People with darker skin types tend to have more melanin in their skin cells than those with lighter skin. Pigmentation occurs when sun exposure, heat, medication, hormones, acne breakouts or skin injury stresses the skin. Our pigment producing cells (melanocytes) go into overdrive and produce excessive amounts of pigment in certain areas. Freckles, age spots and post acne marks are all examples of hyperpigmentation and can appear anywhere on the body but commonly found on the sun exposed areas, such as face, décolleté, arms and backs of hands.

Sun exposure is one of the main causes of pigment changes in the skin, as melanin is needed to protect the skin against sun damage. When the skin is exposed to the skin, melanin absorbs the energy of the suns harmful ultraviolet rays in order to protect the skin from exposure. This typically results in skin tanning. Age spots (or liver spots as otherwise known) do not necessarily appear at the time that the skin is afflicted therefore,  It is imperative to use sunscreen protection everyday to prevent pigmentation appearing or darkening.

Treating Scaring

If you are concerned with a small area or a specific scar, Dermapen is the ideal treatment. It allows us to focus on a specific target with greater intensity, helping to eliminate even the deepest of scars.

Aftercare Advice

A broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of at least SPF30 will be applied following treatment. You will need to continue to apply this daily for at least two weeks, even during the winter or on cloudy days. In the days following your microneedling treatment, as the skin starts to regenerate and repair, it may feel drier than normal.  A simple moisturising cream is recommended if this is the case.
