DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments, addressing a variety of conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles and to enhance or restore loss of volume in the skin.

What are Dermal fillers?

As we age Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic acid diminishes, causing skin to become loose, thin and dehydrated leading to folds and wrinkles. Dermal Fillers are formulated from Hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule that occurs naturally within the body. As it attracts over 1000x more water per molecule of hyaluronic acid, it is deeply hydrating, giving  suppleness, volume and lift to the skin.

Facial sculpting

Dermal Fillers can also be used for shaping and sculpting the face. Dermal fillers for facial contouring need to be administered to compliment your own, natural facial structure. To subtly enhance areas which require alteration or Augmentation

Where can I get dermal filler?

Lip Filler

The safe, efficient procedure can enhance, shape and add volume that the ageing process has taken away. Dermal fillers can also be used to create symmetry of the lips, creating balance between  the upper and lower lip, as well as provide definition to the vermillion border and cupids bow to achieve a natural, full appearance that is youthful.

Liquid Rhinoplasty

This procedure creates immediate, visible results which can hide bumps, pick up tips or camouflage curves in the nose. It can also help if the profile is out of balance with the chin and other features of the face. The non-surgical nose job is a win-win for people seeking non-surgical alternatives to rhinoplasty. It is one of the most complex due to the anatomy of the nose. This procedure can require a top up once the swelling settles, this is included in the cost up to 6 weeks after the procedure.

Cheek Filler

This is very versatile procedure. Midface filler is placed across the apple of the cheek and cheeks bones. This can change the shape of a face, taking it from square to sculpted. It can curve a flat cheek and restore volume lost with ageing giving you definition and a natural looking, youthful appearance. The treatment also smooths the nose-to-mouth lines, effectively lifting the entire face.

Jaw & Chin Filler

Enhancement of the chin and jawline forms a major part of profile balancing, creating symmetry to frame the face. It can project a chin forward if this is sat far behind the lips, fill gaps and add definition in the jawline and reduce the look of sagging jowls. Some people are born with a jawline they are not happy with, in most cases, the jawline appearance is affected by the ageing process. It is a larger surface area with deep thick muscle and usually requires more filler than expected for even the most natural look.

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds (Nose to mouth lines)  run from the side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They appear as we get older, as a result of  collagen break down and the loss of elastin that leads to loosening of the skin in the cheeks and general loss of volume in our faces. As we age, these lines can become very deep and noticeable and give the face a tired, sad, or sagging expression. This can distort the balance of the midface and change the balance between the lower and upper face

Marionette Lines

marionette lines, Vertical lines that develop each side of the chin. As we age, these lines can become very deep and noticeable and give the face a tired, sad, or sagging expression. This can distort the balance of the midface and change the balance between the lower and upper face

How does the skin age?

As skin ages, it experiences a slowing of the natural processes which help maintain a firm, youthful and radiant complexion. Visible signs of skin ageing, spots, fine lines and wrinkles appear as a result of our skins natural defence mechanism, as well as a slower renewal, turnover, activity and recovery. How your skin ages depends on a combination of  intrinsic and extrinsic factors.
Intrinsic ageing is the ageing process that take place over years regardless of external influences. After the age of 25, one percent less collagen is produced each year. The collagen and elastin fibres deplete, resulting in skin sagging and visible wrinkles. The skin begins to look dull and thin as the moisture levels decrease and fat cells start to shrink. In women, menopause causes a decrease in oestrogen levels, leaving the skin drier, thinner, more sensitive and less tones.
Extrinsic ageing is the result of environmental damage in the form of free radical from UV radiation, pollutinn and smoking. Causing an increase in pigmentation, age spots and fine lines and wrinkles.

What aesthetic procedures & treatments can help visible signs of ageing?

While effective skincare is the basis of any anti-ageing regimen, advances in aesthetic procedures and treatments offer the ability to transform skin’s appearance, in the form of lasers, chemical peels and injectables. We recommend a skin consultation to be able to create a customised treatment plan according to your needs and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal fillers are long lasting but not a permanent treatment. The longevity of Dermal fillers varies from person to person. it depends how quickly your body metabolises (breaks down) the product.

Most choose to have a follow up treatment 6-12 months after initial treatment of wrinkles. When the lips have been treated and depending upon product used, these will need to be redone after around 6 months.  A touch up treatment within 2-4 weeks after the initial treatment may be necessary to achieve an optimal correction. There is an additional cost for this.

Injectable Dermal filler is a non surgical procedure. As with any injection, there may be some flight discomfort, which varies from on person to another and what area is being treated. A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin prior to your treatment to maximise comfort. Our dermal fillers used at the clinic contain Lidocaine, a numbing agent that will help ease any discomfort. Arrive to your filler appointment 10 minutes early to allow sufficient numbing time.

Yes, we can use a product to dissolve Dermal fillers called Hyaluronidase

Most clients are concerned with having visible signs following dermal filler treatment. There are a few key steps you can take to help you both minimise visible bruising and swelling and recover quickly as possible.

  • Avoids any blood thinners (alcohol, apirin, Vitamin E, some herbal preparations and supplements) for 2 days prior to and 2 days after treatment. Thin blood results in increased risk of bruising
  • Fresh pineapple has been recommended to eat before and after your treatment- to allieviate and prevent brusing.
  • Take arnica tablets prior to the treatment.

Aftercare Advice

  • Immediately after treatment there may be slight redness, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection and generally disappears in a few days.
  • The initial swelling especially after lip treatment may last longer. some patients experience swelling  for around a week after the treatment. This means the results directly after treatment should not be seen as the final result.
  • Avoid touching the treatment area 12 hours after the treatment. After that the area can be washed gently with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.
  • Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold. Normally 24 hours.
  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sore. Take Zovirax prior and after treatment.
  • Drink plenty of water
